Observations:

The students in Mrs. Patalano's class seemed to be relatively ontask during class . However, there were a few who were engaging in activities other than the one assigned. The first thing that I saw was a boy drawing on some scrap paper while she was teaching at the front of the room. I then observed the group that was farthest away from Mrs. Patalano. It consisted of two female students and one male student (The male student I later found out was sixteen and in the eight grade). He was distracted by the two females in the group. Although, I could not hear them he seemed to be engaging in some flirting. After a couple of long giggles Mrs Patalano separated the group. Another student was sneaking a peace of gum in her mouth and slipping a piece to her friend accross the desk.

Reflections:

Mrs. Patalano seems to be a firm believer in walking around the classroom. She is never standing still for more than a few minutes. This seems to keep most of the students on their toes. Student engagement seems to be important in learning and classroom management. If the students is succefully engaged they will not be in a position to misbehave. Therfore, I believe that it is important to keep the students engaged for their learning and my sanity.
